SUMMARY:ARM Ch. 12 “Luncheon” Speaker Series: Judi Coburn, author of “Rebellion’s Daughter”
DESCRIPTION:\nGuest speaker, Judi Coburn will talk about her latest book, Rebellion’s Daughter.\nRebellion’s Daughter is a work of Canadian historical fiction woven around the possible life of Eunice Whiting, a sympathizer of the Reformers and William Lyon Mackenzie during the rebellion of 1837 in Upper Canada.\nJudi Coburn, is a retired English and History teacher who worked for 18 years researching and writing Rebellion’s Daughter. Judi learned about Eunice from Charles Dickens’ book, American Notes. In it, he briefly describes an interview with Eunice Whiting in the Kingston Penitentiary for Women where she was serving a three-year sentence for horse theft.\nJudi Coburn’s fascinating book explores the role of women, social class, the hard living and working conditions of immigrants, as well as the political conflicts between Tory and Reform sympathizers in Upper Canada.\nLook for our review of Rebellion’s Daughter in the Winter issue of After School.\nFor more on Judi’s book, please go to:\nhttps://fernwoodpublishing.ca/book/rebellion8217s-daughter ( https://fernwoodpublishing.ca/book/rebellion8217s-daughter )\n
